"If you believe it's time to put principles above parties, character above campaign promises, and Common Sense above all -- then I ask you to read this book...."
In any era, great Americans inspire us to reach our full potential. They know with conviction what they believe within themselves. They understand that all actions have consequences. And they find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.
One such American, Thomas Paine, was an ordinary man who changed the course of history by penning Common Sense, the concise 1776 masterpiece in which, through extraordinarily straightforward and indisputable arguments, he encouraged his fellow citizens to take control of America's future -- and, ultimately, her freedom.
Nearly two and a half centuries later, those very freedoms once again hang in the balance. And now, Glenn Beck revisits Paine's powerful treatise with one purpose: to galvanize Americans to see past government's easy solutions, two-part monopoly, and illogical methods and take back our great country.

I was really anxious to put my hand on this book and unfortunately I was really disappointed: I don't really want to write a long digression about what I did not like so I'm going to tell you that I stopped reading it when I got to the Chapter where Mr. Beck was trying to assert that gun control is wrong: I'm sorry isn't the title "Common Sense"? So what's more common sense than a gun control law in America?
Nice try.

Glenn Beck may be a bit dramatic, but he definitely has common sense. This #1 BESTSELLER is something that should be read by everyone with an open mind. This book will really make you think about the true role of government, and more importantly our role to stand up for whats right. A true inspiration, read this book and pass it on to friends. Enjoy

for blind and lazy minds being pushed by a huckster with zero integrity. works well as palliatives for those unwilling to examine the real problems facing this country. anyone who takes this book as reflecting new ideas, a new perspective or any kind of original thought has not been paying attention to any serious dialogue, nor the easily attainable, empirical and unbiased information published over the past several decades. and must not have paid attention in junior high civics, social studies or history classes, to boot. thomas paine would spit in glenn beck's face for this paltry subterfuge and blasphemous misappropriation. why is he not writing a book on the oligarchs who really control the actions and policies of this country? oh, i forgot. some of them are his paymasters. maybe that's why.
regardless, you'd be better off reading paine's direct work, or jefferson, or so many others who actually demonstrated intellectual and spiritual rigor; who were writing for the benefit of their fellow americans, not simply to add more zeroes to their multi-million dollar bank accounts and more hot air to their big, fat windbag egos. shameful. and while you're at it, try reading jimmy carter's now infamous, but shockingly prophetic, "malaise" speech ([...]) and then reflect on what's happened since and why. beck's brand of false patriotism, playing to and manipulating the insecurities of good people, is a true refuge of scoundrels (and to you keith olbermann fans - he's sadly on the fast-track to egomaniacal doom as well). whether you skew towards buckley or nader, strauss or chomsky, viereck or gitlin, this moron can offer nothing to anyone in serious pursuit of knowledge and truth. gets one star for the (unintentional) hilarity of his platitudes and vacuity. but take heart, we won't get fooled again.

This book is an easy read that really puts things in perspective. I have been in the military for eight years, and when I first came back stateside after two years in the Gulf, it killed me to see how preoccupied the people of America had become with trivial concerns. My thoughts were "don't these people realize there is a war going on?" The truth is that America was only barely aware, but none of that awareness encompassed the reality of it (the American media doesn't allow you to see the reality, after all have you ever seen your friend turn into red jelly?..probably not..... Since the media does not sleep, they have found a pony to ride, and his name is Obama, though once again they do not show the reality or the magnitude of the situation. This is the second time I have wondered why America is so preoccupied with trivial concerns (I fell into this category two weeks ago) and I can thank Glenn Beck for opening my eyes and pulling my head out of my preoccupied ***. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that it would have been nice if he would have used citations for his facts and findings (it would have removed any doubt about the validity of the book) If this book is true, and it seems to be, this runaway train of an administration HAS ALREADY CHANGED AMERICA.....but not the America I fought for...and not an America I would fight for again.

I find Glenn Beck to be the most interesting of all political commentators, he speaks of principles with clarity and passion like no one else. The fact that he is self educated is a great asset to his constitutional and historic understanding of the founding of this country. He is without the radicalized, elitist views that often passes as enlightened wisdom by those in government and media. I always look forward to his refreshing opinions about the proper and limited role of government and as a result I have become anxious to participate in activism to make this a reality. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels the same.
It is my hope that as the popularity of Glenn Beck continues to rise, his message of the moral superiority of freedom will become the zeitgeist, causing a major change in what is considered common sense government.
